However, it is possible to file your own divorce in North Carolina for no more than the state divorce form filing fees. Remember to make a copy of EVERY form you fill out and to sign and date forms ONLY when in front of a Notary Public. Fill out the Complaint for Divorce form as well as the Petition to Sue/Appeal as an Indigent form. Also make sure to file the Domestic Civil Action Cover Sheet as well as the Civil Summons form so that your spouse knows you are filing for Divorce and can respond appropriately. In addition, fill out the Notice of Hearing form so that your spouse knows what the date and time of the Divorce hearing is. Last fill out the Judgment for Absolute Divorce and Certificate of Absolute Divorce forms to officially terminate the marriage.
